To All those Yahoo Mail users, pay attention to what I am about to reveal. Yesterday, i.e., 11-12-2007, I got a mail, that was sent on 13-12-2007. I thought it's a moment worth sharing and please pass this word on so that your friends would like to use their Yahoo mail. :P

Project - GYM

Web has become bigger than the universe and at times we need to search the entire web to find what we want. Thanks to Google, we get, almost all the time, what we want in a couple of mouse clicks and keypad strokes. What if Google is unable to give us what we want?If you dont know, Google is not the only search engine in the market. We have Yahoo Search, Microsoft Live and of course our very own, old horse, AltaVista. This project tries to get you all the search results in a tab based window, one for each search engine. Click on your favorite Search Engine link and voila, you have your results!

This is to make your life easier.

Why the name GYM? Google, Yahoo, Microsoft gave their initials to me to name this project as GYM!
What are you waiting for...c'mon test this and report me your comments and suggestions.Happy Searching...

Update: Major update has been rolled out today for my Project - GYM which is support for Mozilla Firefox(which is a pain in **** to have implemented).

special GRE

Hey...

I know..I know.. I haven't blogged for so long and I have been waiting for an impressive feat to write something about... Did you ever imagine revising the GRE words that you have studied while browsing? Did you ever think how cool it would be? Yeah... I have... So, here's the Firefox plugin for you which will just do that. So, what will do that for you? It will highlight all the words that are identified as GRE words and if you hover your mouse over the word, it will display the meaning as a tool tip! How cool... So, what do you need to do in order to have that? OK. Here's the three step detail to install the plugin.

1. Click Download specialGRE
2. Download it to your local hard disk or directly open it using FF to install it. If you did download it to hard disk, drag and drop the file to any of the FF tabs.
3. Restart firefox... You are ready to go! As simple as that...

Note: This plugin works only in FF1.5.x! FF 2.x doesn't support this plug-in.

Update: This is made working in FF 2.x as well... :)

Happy GREing... ;)

Note: For those who doubt my coding abilities, a special mention that I developed this plugin, thanks to ChickenFoot, XML Programming using Java and Eclipse!

Update: The download link has been updated. Enjoy!

Number's Number

Hmm... It's been so long, since I blogged. There is more than a good reason for this prolonged absence. A couple of them are my interest shift from prose to poetry , no interesting topics for me to log a blog and so on...

In one of my previous blogs, I have posted some questions which I though would help people preparing for Campus Interviews! Now, in this blog I am posting such a question which will definitely not be asked in any of the interviews for it's complexity and uniqueness. Try to solve the puzzle or question or riddle or whatever you may want to call it.

HINT: Don't waste your time GOOGLing, as you most probably than not would not find a solution on web. Because, I created this question and I don't think the probability of you stumbling upon such a question as this, is more than 0.000001.

Here goes the question!

Suppose, there is a number made up of a series of ascending order numbers(with a maximum limit), find a way to retrieve the numbers hidden in the number ;). I am positive, you didn't understand a thing what I said! O.K. let me give an example! Suppose, there is a number such as 12123 and max limit is 30. Then the solution to the problem is: this number is made up of 1, 21 and 23 and not 1,2,12 and 3 or 12 and 123. I want an effective algorithm which takes pretty little time and can give at least one solution (in case more than one solution exists!)

Disclaimer:If, still, you didn't understand the question, you are not eligible to solve this. Because, I don't want big time DUMBO's breaking their heads to solve this.

One More HINT: You can use Computers or JAVA program or C program to solve this.

Happy Solving ;)

Kalam visited BITS Pilani

Hi,
Every good thing seems to happen exactly when I don't have a chance to be a part of it! Yeah, you guessed it right. Recently, Honl. President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam visited the most wonderful place of my life, BITS Pilani and I wasn't there to catch the action. What a pity? I have been told by a couple of my friends and juniors, who are lucky enough to get a seat reserved in Audi, that the session was amazing, particularly the Q&A. For your and everyone's convenience, I am giving the link here where you can read his address and transcripts of the Q&A session.

I missed it bro, missed it.

Shattered Dreams

Dreams were shattered

Hopes were murdered

So brutally, I left

wondering at my fate.

Fate seems to forget

Time and again...

My hope is a

Phoenix type...

Rises from sheer nothing

Though I know, I can do nothing!

Dead or alive...

My hope makes me live.

Goals were set

No looking back now.

For I am a champion,

I never do so!

Nothing can stop me

Not least the poverty!

Riding high on hopes.

I still HOPE my wings were not cut brutally.

Is this my fault?

Asks my heart...

Do you have an answer...

I say a clear No!

WC Party without King! :(

I remember that day, very clearly, when my brother and I were watching 1979 World Cup semifinals and final highlights. I think that was 1996 summer. I didn't know much about cricket back then except for the fact that I loved the game more than my acads! This black fellow, chewing the gum, is hitting the ball all around the park much to the amusement of us. I always felt that he wanted to crush the bowlers under his teeth, like he did to chewing gum in his mouth. The fear-less attitude struck instant chord with both of us. And, we started adoring and admiring him. Whenever I play cricket I still try to bat, bowl and field like he did in that WC edition. Oh my God, what a player he is. His presence in the ground is electrifying and stimulating enough for the other players! He is THE King of Cricket! He is Sir Vivian Alexander Richards.

How can the Windies repay for what he has done for them! Hailing from the little island, Antigua, he rose to unattainable heights and went on to become inspiration for new era heroes like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Charles Lara. So, what did WI do to him during this edition of world cup, when WI are hosting the WC for the first time and that too at that point of time when something serious must be done to raise the interests in WI population who are swiftly moving towards soccer and NBA. Do you know what they did to Viv? They didn't invite Sir Viv Richards to the inaug ceremony. Oh my God... Oh my God... please teach Windies how they should treat people who have evolved to become bigger than the Game itself! Whoever is responsible for this mistake(?) should resign their post with immediate effect and show some respect to that cricketing Gaint! Whatever you do to him, he is still THE King of Cricket! My KING of Cricket!

New Lows...

I am just wondering what actually is happening to the Australians of-late. The consecutive losses to New Zealand, which includes a 10-wicket loss and the inability to defend 330+scores twice in a row, tell how much they miss those super stars. I don't know how many of you agree with me, if I say, Australians' fortunes have turned because of their poor bench strength which I have empasized in one of my previous posts when Damy, Glenn and Shane retired from Test Cricket. The absence of Punter, Simmo and Gilly did the magic. Their recent performances made them look so ordinary and speaks little of the talent. Though, Hussey proved to be the most prolific run getter, he showed signs of weakness when it comes to leading the international side which requires lots of commonsense, confidence and strategic mind.

The first match in this series showed their low confidence levels when they batted show defensively to the likes of Shane Bond and Franklin. They played on back foot when they had to come forward and counter the swing and seam. Though, they've learnt from their mistakes and came out well in their second outing, Ross Taylor played gem of an innings and spoiled their party. McMillan did well again in the death and confirmed the series to his home country. The third ODI shows what determination can do in ones life. McMillan, having copped lotsa criticism for his ways of giving away his wicket recklessly gave a stunning performance and ofcourse reminded me of the Gibbs' onslaught and lack of mercy towards bowlers. Though, the ground is a small one, credit goes to McMillan, McCullum and Fulton for showing what it takes to repeat a stunning win. It might be easy to chase down 330+target. But, to do it twice is indeed remarkable.

From this win, New Zealand takes immense confidence and Australia a sheer nothing. Without Gilly and Symonds, and injury threats looming over Haydos and Brett, don't be surprised if they come out of the World Cup from the very first stage. Kudos to Ross and McMillan. You have showed the whole world how to play ODI Cricket!

A Story that is true !

Friend: Happy birthday!
She : Haan...tha......nk yo....u...was just getting up from the bed.

Friend : Oh! That means I am the first to wish you!
She : Naa! He has already wished me at 12 in the night.

Friend : Who???
She : Come on, who else, Nitin.

Friend : Oh, ok. So, what's the plan for today?
She : Nitin told me that he has a surprise gift for me for my Birthday. And also we are going to Flower Show today. I am excited! I have never seen the flower show that happens in Lal Baug. Actually that itself is the most wonderful gift for me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Friend : "Did you go to Palace grounds all the way from Basavanagudi, to see Bryan Adam's show!!! Who accompanied you?"
She : Nitin

Friend : By the way, who referred your CV in SoCrates? I mean you don't know anyone there, right?
She : No, he forwarded my CV to one of his friends there.

Friend : I heard that the HR round interview went on till 8pm in the night. I think you faced difficulty in returning to your room.
She : No, he had come to pick me up. He came from his office, dropped me to my room and he returned to his room at around 11pm. He didn't have dinner also. I asked him to have at my room. Poor Nitin.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend : If you are supposed to go home tomorrow itself then what about reservation?
She : I have told him, he will go to Majestic and would get it done, and he told he has some work in Majestic. That's why I am relaxed a bit.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend : How was your written test in Philips?
She : I failed yaar. The day before the test I had prepared perfectly. Nitin had come to our room. He taught me the basics of embedded programming concepts. I was very confident only because of him. But something else was in store for me.

Friend : Then, what did you do on Sunday?
She : We had gone to see "Lakshya". He doesn't see Hindi movies. But as I was upset after failing in the Philips written test, he took me for movie. I was very happy and surprised that he himself decided for a Hindi movie, and he was very happy that I enjoyed the movie. And you know; we had dinner in Pizza hut. It was his belated B'day treat!

Friend : And, what was your belated gift Wink
She : Gift!! I had given the gift on his B'day itself. I was the first to call him at 12 in the night, he was busy throughout the day, and somehow we could meet in the evening and I gifted him with a cute time piece with a nice quote on it. He doesn't have time sense, so my time piece must always remind him of this. That day he didn't give me any treat as he had to go back to office. Yesterday I had a fight over this, you know! Poor kid.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend : Hello...what about our sari shopping program in Malleshwaram?
She : Listen, I will call you later.

Friend : You didn't call me back in the morning, so I called now.
She : Yeah, when you called I was in Koramangala, with Nitin. He was very upset in the morning. He had a fight with his elder brother. So, it wouldn't have been fair on my part to leave him alone. If I am with him in such situation very soon he comes back to normalcy. So I postponed the Malleshwaram program.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend : Hey! What happened? You seem to be very happy today.
She : Why not? You know today is one of the most happiest days for me. Nitin got an onsite assignment in UK , for 6 months! That's why I am very happy. All of his hard work paid today. He had been waiting for this opportunity since long. He'll be leaving next month.

Friend : You will miss him.
She : Badly. I am so much dependent on him. I must thank Sanju, through him only I got to know Nitin. Without Nitin it would have been very difficult for me to stay in this alien city with no friends, relatives and on top of all, no job. He has been so caring friend all through my tough times in this city, he is so mature, so understanding, so trustworthy...a true friend.

Friend : He loves you yaar.
She : I know.

Friend : And you? Don't you love him?
She : I don't want to.

Friend : Don't tell me. You also feel for him.
She : I know yaar. He has everything that I expect in my dream-life-partner. I know I can never get a true life partner like him. But I don't want to commit.

Friend : What is stopping you? I really don't understand. When Miya-beevi are razi kya karega kazi ?
She : Please...don't say like that. I never told him that I love him or something like that.

Friend : Is he a fool not to understand your feelings which are so clear from outside only? Poor fellow, don't leave him alone.
She : I have told him everything about my family. He knows how orthodox my parents are. They can never expect me marrying a guy from a different caste. They trust me. Come what may, I will not hurt my parent's feelings. I cannot imagine also. Now they are happily searching a guy for me in my native place.

Friend : Hmm, I don't understand at all.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She : This Saturday I have to go home, a guy is coming to see me.
Friend : Oh! Is it? Good news yaar. Your first interview! Wish you all the best.

Friend : Any guesses, who is he?
She : Please yaar. I am least bothered and least interested. For the sake of my parents' happiness I have agreed for this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend : What about the interview, I was expecting your call actually?
She : Nothing so special. I didn't like the guy's attitude. I told my parents clearly. My parents are very understanding and so they too told me that they won't go ahead with this matter.

Friend : But still you should have analyzed properly.
She : I shared my views with Nitin. He had called me the next day. He didn't suggest me anything. He didn't tell me to say "yes" or "no", he didn't preach what is right or what is wrong. But after talking to him I was satisfied that whatever decision I took was right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friend : Yesterday your mobile was engaged for more than half an hour. I kept trying, but I slept after 11pm.
She : Yeah, I was talking to Nitin. He is very much worried about my marriage. He is concerned whether I would get a guy of my choice or not, whether I would be happy with him or not. I was very sad to know this. But I am helpless. I pacified him and convinced that whatever my parents do, that will be the best for me, so no need to worry.

Friend : How Nitin will feel after you get married? Will he not be upset all the time?
She : Time will change everything. He will start living again. Was he not leading a normal life before I came into his life? It's all matter of time. Even I can't do anything other than pacifying him and myself with these philosophical statements.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally " She " got engaged with a guy of her parent's choice (with her "yes" of course). She is in touch with both Nitin and the new " him " regularly through chatting in Yahoo Messenger.

Finally " She " got happily married to " him ", very soon converting Nitin into memories, but deleting the memories was slow and almost impossible for Nitin.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do girls do like this?

  • She needs him when she is new to the city.
  • She needs his help in finding out a PG or hostel for her
  • She makes him prepare a good-format-CV for her
  • She needs him to drop her to the venue of a walk-in interview
  • She expects him to collect all the consultants' mail ids
  • She needs him while preparing for the interviews
  • She needs his help in identifying HER skill sets, strengths and weakness!
  • She wants him to conduct a mock-interview for her!
  • She gives her yahoo mail id password so that he can forward her CV to consultants through internet in his office (in office hours!)
  • She needs him for boosting her confidence when she fails in the 1 st written test in her life
  • She wants him to take her to M.G Road , Brigade Road, Forum and Big bazaar
  • She needs his company while visiting all the temples in Malleshwaram on Vijayadashami, though he is not a believer of God.
  • She asks his opinions on importance of marriage
  • She wants him to be a shoulder to cry when her parents force her for marriage
  • She needs his help in preparing her mind for the first interview with a guy
  • She needs his help in deciding about the marriage proposal
  • She loves to share her happiness with him when she gets engaged
  • She expects him to attend her marriage (Come on guys, he is a true friend of her!)

The guy does all this honestly, without saying a single "No".

  • He loves her.
  • He cares for her.
  • Whatever he is today; it is only because of her entry in to his life.
  • He treats her as his life.
  • She changed him.
  • It is only because of her, he is smiling.
  • It is only because of her, he has forgotten the past bitter experiences.
  • She is the first person in his life to influence him so much.
  • He was the " bhatka hua musafir " and she came as his " manzil ".
  • He threw the cigarette in the dust-bin because of her.
  • He has cultivated a positive attitude towards marriage and family because of her.
  • She is the perfect Indian woman he has ever seen.
  • He keeps a photo of Lord Krishna in his purse now; only because of her (also it is her favorite deity!).
  • Weekends come and go without his notice; it is only because of her.
  • He stopped going to office on Weekends; it is only because of her.
  • Onsite project was his dream; he puts all his efforts now, not to get an onsite assignment but to get a job for her in Bangalore .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The girl depends on the guy as if she never lived and can never live without him. Guy behaves as if he has taken birth on this earth only to care for that lady. She treats him as a shoulder to cry and he treats her as a puppy in a rain storm. She loves to depend and he loves to take care, finally they fall in so called "love", ultimately adding an unnecessary trauma to life. Girls want a perfect life partner but they don't want to hurt their parents' feelings, guys know that they can't get her but still they want to care for her(because they want her to be happy wherever she is and with whoever she is).Great! Or shall I say crap !

Or I think no need to be so serious about it.

  • She gets engaged, life goes on...
  • Long lasting phone calls become short and sweet, life goes on...
  • A heart which was used to "Good morning" SMSs learns to be happy with just the "Happy weekend" SMSs, life goes on...
  • No more "Unread messages" in the yahoo mail, life goes on...
  • No one to share coffee at "Barista" at the end of a tiring working day, life goes on...
  • No more consultants' calls to be diverted and life goes on...
  • He starts smoking again, life goes on...
  • He is still living in flashback, and no looking back for her, but life goes on...
  • He gets promoted, he is a manager, she is mother of two kids, and life goes on...
  • He is in his late twenties, happily married to a beautiful, understanding, mature, caring, broad minded wife! Anyway life goes on...

There is " She " in every wife and there is Nitin in every husband (most of the times!). There are dumb spectators like " Friend " who are puzzled to see the whole episode between " She " and Nitin and just ask themselves " WHAT IT IS ???" ..

My take on this story? hmm... well, I can't do anything but feel sorry for the person who created this in the first place, coz he must be going through a horrible phase of his life to have written this so beautifully! Kudos to you sir...

Campus Interview Questions

These questions are collected and compiled solely by me. some of them are even created by me ;).
If you are bored doing RSAgarwals and Shakunthala Devi's(SD), then try solving these and it will be a good respite for you. If you haven't finished RS or SD, forget about this, go back and try solving them. Well, the following are the questions and I shall post the answers in a different blog, so that you can analyse your answers when ever you want! :)
  1. Tell me the most efficient way of finding a square root of a perfect number.
  2. Tell me the most efficient way of finding sum of all the factors of a number.
  3. Most efficient way of multiplying vth 7 without using *.
  4. Tell me the series where sum of any n numbers in the series is not equal to another number in the series. Eg: 4, 6, 10 can't be the required series; 2,3,4,9 can't be the required series.
  5. If Ravi is as old as Kavi was when Ravi was one third older as that of Kavi is, then what are the ages now? (source: 7th class text book.)
  6. If we have 80 coins out of which one weighs lesser than the rest, what is the minimum no of weighings required to find the counterfeit using normal balance?(SD, twisted a bit!)
  7. Supposing we have 10 heaps of 10g coins out of which one heap has 9g coins. Tell me the way to find out the counter-feit coins heap weighing only once.(Assume you have electronic balance.) [Last year Oracle question.]
  8. If + indicates *, - indicates /, * indicates - and / indicates +, what is the value of (2+3)*(4-2)/((2*1)+(4/3))? (My Creation!)
  9. Tell me the easiest way of finding whether a double value is integer or not? Hint: Use Elementary Mathematics! (My creation!)
  10. My favourite from SD: If a pendulum clock rings for 6 secs when the time is 6pm. How long does it ring when the time is 10pm?
Happy Solving ;). Answers in another blog!

Three Champions Retire...

There can't be a more fitting farewell for three champions who made amazing contribution not only to the Australian cricket but to the game of Cricket as a whole. "Ashes cleansweep after 86 years". What a gift to give to Justin Langer, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. Most of the cricket fans agree GM and SW are cricketers of highest level and it is almost impossible to fill in the voids they create by leaving. Though, McGrath confirmed of no returns to test cricket, it's been a fantastic career for him to look back. SW, tormented by Indian batsmen in his first series, took revenge on the batsmen by conjuring an unplayable when it is most needed. When it comes to Justing Langer, he only reminds me of a true Australian, wearing "Never Give-up Attitude". It will be an injustice to "Cricket", if we don't recognise his efforts in giving fantastic starts to Australian innings time and again, at a fantastic strike-rate. I miss those typical SW deliveries and GM consistency... Time goes on and so do fantastic players.
